Our New "Family Night Tuesdays" presents A Fools Night out next Tuesday, April 1st from 7:00pm-8:00pm!
Celebrate April Fools day by enjoying an evening of foolish stories, foolish antics, and other general foolishness at the Store. The evening might also include a surprise or two! Louise Omoto Kessel, a resident of Chatham County, travels the eastern seaboard telling stories for folks of all ages. Recently, she has been involved in such projects as the Silk Road Exibit at the Smithsonian in Washington and the Five Faiths project here in NC. She regularly appears throughout NC at fairs, festivals, and in public libraries and schools. Jef came to the Triangle in 1976 as a founder of North Carolina's touring mime theatre , TOUCH. He performed with TOUCH until 1993, when he began a career as a freelance mime artist. Currently you can see him at schools, festivals and fairs throughout North and South Carolina and Virginia by himself or with his juggling partner, Ken Kaye. This April Fools show marks the third year Louise and Jef have combined their talents to celebrate foolishness with an evening of stories and mime when, as Mark Twain put it, "We remember what we are the other 364 days of the year." Benefit Concert for the Chatham Social Health Council Features The B-Sides and The PinkSlips Monday April 7th! Join us at the General Store Caf? on Monday, April 7th, for an evening of great music and food while supporting the Chatham Social Health Council, dedicated to providing HIV/AIDS and STD prevention education and advocacy in Chatham County. By building a network of volunteer peer educators, the Council aims to increase the number of people in Chatham County who can serve as resources on HIV/AIDS and STD issues in an effort to empower citizens to depend on one another, instead of upon a single agency. $12 admission includes a free burrito. 100% of ticket sales benefit the Chatham Social Health Council. Please call 919-542-7060 for more information. Reminder: Extended Store Hours, Extended Store Hours--Read All About It! We are now open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 7:30am to 8:00pm, Thursday and Friday from 7:30am to 10:30pm, and on Saturday from 9:00am to 10:30pm, though on Sundays we are still closed (that is - until enough people ask us to be open on Sundays as well). During open hours we serve breakfast until 11:00am, hot lunch until 3:00pm, deli items until 6:00pm and dinner from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Thursday through Saturday we have live music from 8:00pm to 10:00pm. |

Thursday, March 27 - Bryan McCune Trio (Jazz) Featuring Bryan McCune on Cornet, Francis Dyer on Drums and Rick Lassiter on Bass Friday, March 28 - Sheila Warner and John Fry (Folk meets Native American music) Performing songwriter Sheila Warner pairs up with percussionist/flutist John Fry, combining original and folksy tunes with the grooves of congas, various percussive toys, and the haunting strains of the native-American cedar flute. A finalist in both the Triangle Folk Music Society and the North Carolina Songwriter's Coop songwriting contests, Sheila regularly performs with the swingin' folk trio "Triology" in addition to her gigs as a singer-songwriter."...her style is sophisticated, her lyrics are intelligent and beautifully written, and her finger-style (guitar) playing is first rate." (Chapel Hill News). A new resident of Pittsboro, most recently from Raleigh, John Fry performs with the new age/world music percussion ensemble "Shabdra Shruti". John's music expresses his spiritual ties with the native-American tradition and his love of the drum. John has been involved with various drum circles around the Triangle area, and has played many styles of music with a variety of artists. Saturday, March 29 - ESP (Old Time Music) ESP takes its name from its members: Emerson, Smith & Phelps. Natives of North Carolina, the three met 10 years ago playing at public jam sessions held at local guitar shops and bookstores. Each with his own love of acoustic traditional music, come together to create a rich mixture of old time music. Emerson's music is rooted in country and bluegrass, Smith's in traditional American folk, and Phelps' in Delta/Southern blues and Appalachian fiddle tunes. Influenced by different tastes, they meld together an unforgettable acoustic sound, attempting to perform in the same uncluttered style as the great string music artists of an earlier time. ESP features John Emerson (bass, guitar, mandolin, vocals), Don Smith (guitar, mandolin, bass, vocals), and Alan Phelps (mandolin, mandola, guitar, vocals). |
