NC WARN is a member-based nonprofit tackling the accelerating crisis posed by climate change ?– along with the various risks of nuclear power ?– by watch-dogging utility practices and working for a swift North Carolina transition to energy efficiency and clean power generation. In partnership with other citizen groups, NC WARN uses sound scientific research to inform and involve the public in key decisions regarding their wellbeing.

The mission of the Friends of the Rocky River (FORR) is to protect, monitor, maintain, and improve upon the quantity and quality of the waters of the Rocky River, as well as to monitor and minimize the effect of the growth of the Region on the River and its basin.

Burrito Bash for Habitat & FVRC

Raising the Roof Fashion Show & Burrito Bash to benefit Chatham Habitat for Humanity & Family Violence Rape Crisis Services

Mark your calendar for Tuesday, March 2 for the Raising the Roof Burrito Bash, featuring a funky fashion show with designs made from recycled materials, including items from the Home Stores and Second Bloom. The event will take place from 6-9 pm at the General Store Cafe in downtown Pittsboro. Tickets include delicious burritos and chips & salsa by the General Store Cafe. Proceeds will benefit Chatham Habitat for Humanity and Family Violence & Rape Crisis Services, working together to create safe and peaceful homes.

Pam Smith will be the esteemed Mistress of Ceremonies, with music by the Bad Mothers and a dance performance by W.I.N.G.S. Fashion models include Mayor Randy Voller, designer Lesley Landis, Sheriff Richard Webster, County Commissioners Mike Cross, George Lucier, and Tom Vanderbeck, Betty & Jane Allen Wilson, Home Store Manager Howard Alston, Nona Mensah, Ilana Dubester, Melody Eggen, Victoria Cox, and more. The audience can cast votes for their favorite fashions via donations. The team that generates the most ?“votes?” wins a prize.

Tickets are on sale now at the Habitat Home Stores (919-542-0788) and at Second Bloom (919-545-5565): $12 in advance, $15 at the door. Bring $1's and $5's so you can cast your votes for your favorites fashions. Proceeds benefit Chatham Habitat for Humanity & Family Violence The need for affordable housing in Chatham County has never been greater. With skyrocketing growth, many low-income families are getting left out in the cold. At Chatham Habitat, future homeowners, volunteers, and staff work side-by-side to build safe, energy-efficient, and affordable houses which partner families purchase with zero percent interest mortgages.Since 1989, Chatham Habitat has worked to change substandard housing conditions by making homeownership possible for nearly 90 families throughout the county. In the process, Habitat is able to transform lives, improve neighborhoods, and most importantly... ...give hope and strength to our communities.

Since 1982, Family Violence & Rape Crisis Services has provided services to battered women and sexual assault victims in Chatham County, NC. FVRC assists victims and their families through services such as:
-24-hour crisis intervention
-shelter
-court advocacy
-support groups
-individual and family counseling
-children's programs
-parenting education
-services to batterers

"Promoting peaceful homes, building safe communities, and empowering individuals and families to heal from domestic and sexual violence."

Burrito Bash for CARE

Chatham Animal Rescue and Education?’s 7th Annual Burrito Bash with Auctions

Pittsboro, NC - Come enjoy the fun. Bid on awesome auction items, eat delicious food, and join in the laughter, while helping the cats and dogs of Chatham Animal Rescue and Education, Inc. (CARE). On Tuesday, May 4, 2010 from 6:00 ?– 9:00 PM, the volunteers of CARE in partnership with the General Store Café (GSC), will hold our 7th Annual Burrito Bash fundraiser with both live and silent auctions at the GSC, just off the traffic circle in downtown Pittsboro.

CARE?’s mission is to promote the health and safety of all Chatham County cats and dogs. We play a crucial role in reducing the number of unwanted animals that end up being euthanized in the shelter by operating a $20 spay/neuter program for Chatham County residents with income under $40,000, as well as free surgeries for Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes. Our foster volunteer caregivers open their homes and their hearts to help make animals more adoptable while they await their forever homes. Money earned through your participation in this engaging event goes directly to funding animal care.

A $15 donation on this special Tuesday night provides admission and a GSC dinner burrito with all the fixins?’. Live and Silent Auction items feature a range of experiences, artwork, and gift-certificates, including an Outer Banks beach week, an Ocean Isle Beach week, a Lake Lure Mountain getaway weekend, metal sculptures, original paintings, pottery, woodworking, therapeutic massages, garden items, as well as many more magnificent finds.

Dinner and Silent Auction begin at 6:00 PM (Silent Auction closes at 7:15 PM); Live Auction begins at 7:30 PM.

Join us and The Abundance Foundation for an evening of music, live auction and mayhem. Yes, we will be auctioning off well loved puppets and painted flats from our illicit past 12 years of doings. Come and help support us and Abundance by purchasing a burrito and perhaps a puppet you can take home for your very own. Music will be provide by the Paperhand Band including some of the big hits as well as some classic Jimmy Magoo numbers for the whole family to enjoy. Hope to see you there!

The purpose of the Abundance Foundation is to increase the public awareness of sustainable energy usage. The corporation?’s goal is to fund projects that can model how human beings can harness, use, and benefit from renewable energy sources. The Abundance Foundation is being established not only to promote advances in areas like solar, wind, and biodiesel, but also to encourage conservation and alternative energy paradigms.

Paperhand's mission is to make work that inspires people, promotes social change, and is deeply satisfying for everyone involved. The puppet shows we create are a synthesis of many art forms including (but not limited to):sculpting, painting, music, dance, improvisation, costume/set design and theater.

Come boogie down at the Burrito Bash July 6th to the New Orleans sound of the Ronda Robichaux Band, an innovative and diverse mix of original and classic blues, funk and rock, from slow and gritty to foot stompin' dance tunes. Come shake your booty, stalk the perfect burrito and help furry faced critters at the same time. What could be better? See you there!

The Chatham County chapter of the Coalition to Unchain Dogs is a non-profit, volunteer effort dedicated to improving the welfare of dogs living outdoors on chains. We built our first fence here in Chatham County in March of 2010. As of May we?’ve built five fences to free eight dogs, and we already have some 17 additional dogs on our list waiting to be freed.

The Coalition to Unchain Dogs is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to making the chaining of dogs a thing of the past. We work toward this goal by:

Building free fences for people who chain their dogs.
Educating the community about the detrimental effects of chaining on both the dog and the community.
Helping groups around the country to start free-fencing programs and to lobby for legislation to help chained dogs.
Lobbying for legislation which disallows or severely restricts tethering of dogs.

The Coalition has been building fences in the Triangle since March of 2007. It has freed more than 500 dogs from their chains, and has grown to include five chapters in North Carolina as well as several in other states.

TWRC
The Triangle Wildlife Rehabilitation Hospital is dedicated to providing care for sick, injured, and orphaned native North American wildlife in need of assistance and to promoting the value and importance of preserving native wildlife and its habitat to the public. The Goathouse Refuge is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3), cage free, animal shelter founded and operated by local artist, Siglinda Scarpa. The vision of the refuge is that of a sanctuary for cats, a home for cats to live comfortably enjoying the much needed love, respect and attention they deserve while awaiting adoption.

Chatham County Social Health Council
Through education, advocacy, testing and support, the Chatham Social Health Council strives to prevent HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases and unintended pregnancy throughout central North Carolina.

The CSHC is the only agency devoted solely to HIV and STD prevention education in Chatham County. Because of the outstanding prevention and testing services offered by Chatham Social Health Council, services were recently expanded to Alamance, Randolph and Orange Counties. The Council reaches over 9,000 people annually.

The Haw River Assembly is a non-profit organization founded in 1982 to restore and protect the Haw River and Jordan Lake, and to build a watershed community that shares this vision. The scenic 110 mile Haw River is at the top of the Cape Fear River Basin, and includes the Jordan Lake reservoir. Tributaries of the Haw River and Jordan Lake flow through Guilford, Rockingham, Caswell, Alamance, Orange, Chatham, Wake and Durham counties -- a watershed of almost one million people.
